Frankie / Mississippi John Hurt

Frankie was a good girl, everybody know,
she paid one hundred dollars for Albert’s suit of clothes
He’s her man, but he did her wrong

Frankie went down to the corner saloon, she ordered her a glass of beer,
she asked the barkeeper, "Gas my lovin’ Albert been here?"
"He been here, but he’s gone again"

"Ain’t gonna tell you no story, Frankie, I ain’t gonna tell you no lie"
Says, "Albert a-passed about a hour ago, with a girl you call Alice Frye
He’s your man, and he’s doin’ you wrong

Frankie went down to the corner saloon, she didn’t go to be gone long
She peeked through keyhole in the door, spied Albert in Alice’s arm
He’s my man, and you’s doin’ me wrong

Frankie called Albert, she shot him three or four times,
says, "Stand back, I’m smokin’ my gun, let me see is Albert dyin’
He’s my man, and he did me wrong"

Frankie and the judge walked outta the stand, and walked out side by side
The judge says, "Frankie, you’re gonna be justified,
killin’ a man, and he did you wrong"

Frankie was a good girl, everybody know,
she paid one hundred dollars for Albert’s suit of clothes
He’s her man, but he did her wrong

Said, "Turn me over, mother, turn me over slow,
it may be my last time, you won’t turn me no more
He’s my man, and he did me wrong"

Says, Frankie was a good girl, everybody know,
she paid one hundred dollars for Albert’s suit of clothes
He’s her man, but he did her wrong

Frankie And Albert / Bob Dylan

Frankie was a good girl.
Everybody knows.
Paid one hundred dollars
For Albert’s new suit of clothes.
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Albert said, ‘I’m leaving you.
Won’t be gone for long.
Don’t wait up for me.
A-worry about me when I’m gone.’
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Frankie went down to the corner saloon.
Get a bucket of beer.
Said to the bartender.
‘Has my lovin’ man been here?’
He was her man but he done her wrong.

‘Well, I ain’t gonna tell you no stories.
I ain’t gonna tell you no lies.
I saw Albert an hour ago
With a gal named Alice Bly.’
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Frankie went down to 12th Street,
Lookin’ up through the window high.
She saw her Albert there,
Lovin’ up Alice Bly.
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Frankie pulled out a pistol,
Pulled out a forty-four.
Gun went off a rootie-toot-toot
And Albert fell on the floor.
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Frankie got down upon her knees,
Took Albert into her lap.
Started to hug and kiss him,
But there was no bringin’ him back.
He was her man but he done her wrong.

‘Gimme a thousand policemen,
Throw me into a cell.
I shot my Albert dead,
And now I’m goin’ to hell.
He was my man but he done me wrong.’

Judge said to the jury,
‘Plain as a thing can be,
A woman shot her lover down,
Murder in the second degree.’
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Frankie went to the scaffold,
Calm as a girl could be,
Turned her eyes up towards the heavens,
Said, ‘Nearer, my God, to Thee.’
He was her man but he done her wrong.

Hey Joe / Jimi Hendrix

Hey Joe,
uh, where you goin’ with that gun in your hand?
Hey Joe,
I said where you goin’ with that gun in your hand? Alright

I’m goin’ down to shot my old lady
you know, I caught her messin’ around with another man, yeah
I’m goin’ down to shot my old lady
you know I caught her messin’ around with another man,
Huh, and that ain’t too cool

Uh, Hey Joe
I heard you shot your woman down, you shot her down, now
H-hey Joe
I said I heard you shot your old lady down,
you shot her down to the ground,… yeah

Yes I did, I shot her
You know I caught her messin’ round, messin’ round town
Uh-yes I did, I shot her
You know, I caught my old lady messin’ around town
And I gave her the gun,
I SHOT HER!

Woo
Ah…Hey Joe, alright
Shot her one more time again, baby

yeah
Ah, dig it
Ah
Ah, … Ooo, alright

Hey Joe, said now
uh-where you gonna run to now?
Where you gonna run to?
Hey Joe, I said
where you gonna run to now?
Where you, where you gonna go?
Well, dig it!

I’m goin’ way down south,
way down to Mexico way
Alright!
I’m goin’ way down south,
way down where I can be free
Ain’t no one gonna find me

Ain’t no hangman gonna,
he ain’t gonna put a rope around me
You better believe it right now! I gotta go now
Hey, h-hey Joe,
you better run on down
Goodbye everybody, ow!
Hey, hey-hey Joe, uhh,
run on down!

Where The Wild Roses Grow / Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day
From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
As she stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
They grew down the river, all bloody and wild
When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped the tears that ran down my face

On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I’d seen
I said, ‘Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?’
On the second day he came with a single rose
Said: ‘Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?’
I nodded my head, as I lied on the bed
He said, ‘If I show you the roses will you follow?’

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he stood smiling above me with a rock in his fist
On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
As I kissed her goodbye, I said, ‘All beauty must die’
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

Delia’s Gone / Johnny Cash

Delia, oh, Delia Delia all my life
If I hadn’t have shot poor
Delia I’d have had her for my wife
Delia’s gone, one more round Delia’s gone

I went up to Memphis
And I met Delia there Found her in her parlor
And I tied to her chair
Delia’s gone, one more round Delia’s gone

She was low down and trifling
And she was cold and mean
Kind of evil make me want to Grab my sub machine
Delia’s gone, one more round Delia’s gone

First time I shot her I shot her in the side
Hard to watch her suffer
But with the second shot she died
Delia’s gone, one more round Delia’s gone

But jailer, oh, jailer Jailer,
I can’t sleep ‘Cause all around my bedside
I hear the patter of Delia’s feet
Delia’s gone, one more round Delia’s gone

So if you woman’s devilish
You can let her run
Or you can bring her down and do her
Like Delia got done
Delia’s gone, one more round Delia’s gone
